I use this on my Airedale Terrier. The good:It seems to be well made. The actual harness portion has a small footprint. It is very adjustable. The dog doesn't mind wearing it at all.It has extra attachment points to hang Items off of.Cons:Adjusting the harness is not simple. The bags are somewhat small. Each can hold a 16 oz water bottle. The bags must be of equal weight or the heavier bag will pull the harness to that side.It is on the high end pricewise of the saddlebags that I shopped.Took my husky on vacation for a lot of hiking trails. We needed something that was able to clip on him and hold his water bowl and a few waters and whatever we needed for our trip. I was really skeptical about buying this vest because of the material but it did great for my experience. We don’t use this vest for an every day thing for him only for when we do some hiking. I do recommend this best for only hiking purposes. This pack is for 50-110 lbs & was purchased for my Rottie bitch of 90 lbs. I could get it on her once I loosened the straps nearly to the end. I don't think it would fit over her raincoat, unfortunately the raincoat went to lil Buster also. Scrawny Buster in attached pictures weighs only 50 lbs, Neck 16.5" Chest 32".The size of the packs r more for day trips or 2-3 days depending. I filled a gallon Ziploc baggy w 10 cups of kibble per side. U could fit some poo bags on top. A 16 oz water bottle will fit inside. I don't think a Sawyer 1L bladder would fit. I needed a pack that my experienced train dog can haul his gear 7 days minimum so I need to find another solution for them.Pros- solid built quality that looks like it'll hold up will for years of adventure- bags removable- fits so the weight will be carried on shoulders vs back- bags r up high & secured so they won't bounce as the dog trots down the trail- sits securely no matter if dog climbing up boulders, crossing streams of siding down a snow covered hill.- has 2 loops either side of the handle so u can secure extras- has tiny zip pockets on each bag that u can get some paperwork inside a baggyCons- their sizing is way small- reached out to online customer service prior to purchase for help & they were worthless.- so far everything I've order has not fit. I thought I'd b smart & order 1 size up on fleece jacket, it's too big Ha! I just can't winPros:Very sturdy design, unlikely to break or rip.Big Baxter model pockets will each hold a zip lock bag containing 8 cups of food, so the pockets are fairly large. The number of straps ensure that it generally stays in place, unless you severely unbalance one side with weight.Highly adjustable to fit very large dogs. I could see it fitting St Bernard's, Great Danes, and Mastiffs with no problem.Cons:The straps can be difficult to adjust while on the dog, as they are designed to not accidentally loosen. The description for Big Baxter says it will 50 lb dogs, my 55lb Boxer mix is almost too slender for the adjustments. It's still a little loose, but it works. It's really intended for the upper end of the size range they give.Size is perfect for my 160# great dane. 2 things I don't like....the bags are not removable from the harness and the zippers seem cheap. They keep getting stuck and after 2 short hikes one is already broke. Expect more for what I paid for this thing. Not a major drawback but it does seem to get him pretty hot. Not sure if material is very breathable. Not a major drawback but something to think about if going out in heat of summer. My half great dane pups on the enormous side. He's 110 lbs about 32" tall at the shoulders and has a 37" chest. The large pack adjusts and fits him well with room to grow. I could let it out maybe 4" on each side lowering the packs and a few on the under carriage. The packs adjust up and down. The bottom straps are attached to the under belt. So, if your dog is maxed out on chest size it will not be adjustable. The straps don't have any padding. I'm concerned that he may get some chafing with a very long hike. The packs are very gracious in size, each side of the pack fits 4 cups of dog food and 2 beersA nice looking set of saddle bags for our 84 lbs Pyredoo. We will start with him carrying groceries home…He seems to pull less when this harness is on. He doesn’t even notice he is wearing it.The backpack looks very nice, well finished and sturdy. As a previous review mentioned, there is a small flaw, The bottom sternum strap is connected to the first chest strap by a sewn loop that is inconveniently located between the buckle and the plastic piece that you adjust the size with. This means that if you must make the chest strap longer, the bottom sternum loop is confined to a smaller and smaller space that is also not centered. Well... not worth the return. It's an easy fix. Cut the end of the strap and reorganize the plastic parts. I did it and now, I can adjust everything perfectly to my growing English Mastiff. I have a lot more room, for him to grow, than I thought. I think this backpack is going to last him quite a while. It took me a little bit of time to adjust everything perfectly (time to figured out how the straps worked). Now, my pup is all excited to go for a walk with his new bag.The pockets are pretty large and can accommodate 2 to 3 plastic bottles (depending on the size of it) for the big Baxter. I was wondering what the metal part was in front for, and once I read the label i found out it was a bottle opener ?My first bit of Kurgo kit for my dog (a very athletic male Labrador) and he loved it! Takes a bit of time to get the fit right but there is lots of adjustment so once you have it sorted it fits really well. First camping trip he wore it for two or three hours a day with no rubbing. Pouches are not huge (even on this Big one) but room for his food, bowl, poo bags and even him long lead. Kurgo seem to have addressed issues with the zips which now close front to back so don't open when the dog runs through bushes. Seem sturdy too, so bought another one for my other Labrador. We got the big baxter for our 36kg lurcher and this is perfect the saddle bags are a perfect size they are big enough to carry water bottles and the collapsible bowl for drinking from with some treats and a couple spare ballsIt's okay. It's not a Ruffwear product tho as an earlier review points out. In the long run, I haven't saved money by buying cheaper, it has cost me more and when you love and trust a quality brand, why compromise?I bought this for my sons dog in NZ and took it with A perfect fit and well constructed. His dog took to straight away. I was so impressed with it I will be buying one for my own dogThis was a mistake. I went out on a limb (very limited reviews) and bought this for my 100lb lab. The design is decent, I like the way it fits and my pup seems to approve. The first problem I encountered was with the zippers. They close in the forward position and like any dog, mine romps through trees and shrubs leaving a trail of goodies from his backpack. Second problem came after the 3rd use. The fabric is very light and the single stitch has opened up on both sides near the bottom of the pack. After the 4th outing, the holes were almost 4" long. We would have stitched it but I don't think the fabric will hold even with good stitching. Near the end of this outing we also noticed there is some sort of lining inside the pack that USED to be attached to the fabric. It's all falling out. Terrible quality on this pack. Sending it back..Update: Manufacturer sent me a new pack on warranty. The first 20k trek, the stitching came out in the same place, enough to create a 2" hole on one side. Frustrated I threw it in the garbage. I asked for a refund but Kurgo refused.
