Description

The backpack version of our versatile Switchback sling-pack, this unique pro-quality day-pack has generous size to accommodate laptops in its padded retainer, yet is nimble enough to be rotated from back to chest. Common to all our slings, such as the Evac series, this maneuver gives on-the-go access to frequently used gear while carrying heavier loads on the back the rest of the time. It's also more secure in crowds etc., since you can keep it in sight and allows users to sit back in tight quarters such as ski lifts, or in vehicle interiors, etc. Common to all our slings, such as the Eva Series, This maneuver gives on-the-go access to frequently used gear while carrying heavier loads on the back The rest of the time. I first purchased my Hazard 4 Deep Diver watch then went to their web site and saw all the great gear they had. I replaced my old back pack which I carry on a daily basis with this back pack and WOW I love it. Well made and I like the fold out panel for special storage. I have never seen a back pack with this feature.I got this bag after returning my ORCA Salish 40L bag. Upon opening, I immediately noticed a difference of quality. Its a solid bag. Built well, really easy for strap management, and YES, THE MIDDLE WAIST BELT IS REMOVABLE.This is a good bag for modular usage. I Bought it for a trip to San Diego coming up soon and I need to transport my camera equipment and the main compartment is pretty much perfect. While my own camera padding didn't attach to the walls well, the padding HAZARD 4 provides will probably do the job well. There are a few cons to the bag. But I'm sure these things are fixed with the bigger pack.-There's is no dedicated laptop pouch. Best to buy a laptop sleeve.-As stated, the inner walls are lined with felt which is awesome, but using your own padding with velcro is out for long travel.-The only zippers with a lock are the frontward pocket ones. Which, is good for security, but I wish the rest of the zippers had that.-The main pocket's opening is... awkward? The pocket opening doesn't go from the side, it goes from the corner. There a 4 inch section thats basically the hinge. It makes it slightly weird for access, as does the zipper flap that covers the zipper for the main pouch.-No MOLLE straps on the very bottom of the bag.Overall, I knew after buying the Jelly Roll for my lens that this would be a good choice. I'm very satisfied. If there's anything that happens while on the trip, I'll update this review. As I generally dont review until having the item for 30 days, but in this case I made an exception.A great backpack. One of the best general use backpacks HAZARD has. Certainly an icon of HAZARD, and it's line. Great photography excursion backpack. The shoulder straps are super comfortable they are even shaped to go around your shoulders ergonomically for best comfort i have owned nearly every low end to high end tactical bags this bag is on my top 1 list most comfortable I ever owned and it doesn't stick far off your back so you don't lose balance and so its easier on your back and shoulders it distributes the weight perfectly i have a long torso so its hard to find a comfortable bag and this bad boy is it everything is quality top and bottom the top grab handle is very comfortable I absolutely love the molla design I put the big glasses hard case on the molla on the bottom to match it definitely a home run I can go on and on ... try it for your self you won't be disappointedI have had this backpack since early 2016, and I have used it for family trips, business trips, and my daily bag to go to work, and it has been good to me. The trips have been on the airlines, and it fits under the seat in front of you okay, and the zippered pockets are easily accessible.I do not see any major wear, just a little bit here and there, but nothing major. It is not a huge bag, but I can store quite a bit in it.I have transported an iPad (4thG in a case), PSVita(in a case that basically doubles it size), Car seat-back DVD dual screen/player, a full ~20 DVD case and my tolietry kit in it at one time, and still had other odds and ends in it.I have added some Grimlocks to it, to make it a bit more functional, and some cheapo carbiners on the inside to hold on to my sunglasses case(Hazard 4 Mil Pod, which I also like). It has held up better than my Plan-B, also from Hazard 4, which the sling strap has started to wear, but I also used that a for a daily bag to go to work, so it got a lot of use. Not sure when I bought the Plan-B, but I think it was in the 1st or 2nd batch. To start the newer version of the bag definitely has a removable waist strap and it does contain the locking buckle. I'm not sure if other reviews of this product are for an older version or just flat out got the wrong bag but this one has a very well constructed and indeed removable waist strap. That aside the rest of the bag I received had no stitching issues or any flaws. It has a lot of very cool features that aren't really shown on the item listing. There is a zipper expandable side pocket, the entire interior is lined with the fabric that allows hazard 4's dividers to customize internal space, and the laptop\hydration pocket is basically quillted to protect your device. This is my second Hazard 4 bag, I usually stick with 5.11 and maxpedition and I took a chance on a Hazard 4 sling. Liked that one so went for a full size bag. You will absolutely not be disappointed with this bag.A few of the stitches on the from straps have come loose, mainly around the sternum belt, making small loops into big ones. Not a huge deal , but a little annoying. Velcro panel is smaller than I'd like, and I've been having trouble finding something to add to create a larger velcro surface; the few I've found have also had closed horizontal loops which don't help much with the bag's closed vertical loops (I have yet to find the holy grail: some sort of 1x1 converter that'll convert a horizontal loop to a vertical loop). Seems to be good on water resistance. Belt is great with the extra molle loops, and I've used it more than I expected. I have a bum left elbow (destroyed by a bullet, so it's plastic and metal), so it's a bit harder to 'rotate' the bag to the front to get to the pouches in the right orientation -- it's too bad this bag doesn't come in both a "left" and "right" model so I could have bought one that'd rotate off the left shoulder (so my right hand could go into the bag) instead of right (so left hand has to go into the bag). I have a really hard time getting the strap back over my left arm/elbow (elbow protrudes quite a bit more than normal), so I rarely use the rotation because of it. For someone that's not gimpy like me, it'd work great, though. :)Accidentally bought this instead of the Switchback model, returning it was super easy with no trouble from the seller. While it wasn't what I wanted, from what I saw of it it was just as well made as my Switchback, strong stitching, good quality fabric and decent zips with paracord to eliminate annoying zipper jingle. Definitely recommend if you want a tactical backpack which can also carry laptops. The see through plastic map holder in the admin flap also works with tablets, I tested it and it definitely works with touchscreens.I am a hazard 4 fan boy so no review from me is going to be unbiased. Great bag though just like all hazard 4 productsI currently use this as a work extended day sack. It fits a 17" macbook pro perfectly in the water pack section and has a compartment in the front pocket that lets your store and use a tablet. The quality is second to none and I highly recommend it for IT professionals who have to carry large amount of equipment with them.Bag is smaller than I would have liked, and doesn't come with the Delta retainer that is advertised in the description, but should still work for what I intend to use it for.I'm hoping I just got a dud bag becauseThis particular bag has lots of loose and frayed threads. It would probably still hold for a while, as the rest of it's construction feels solid, but for something this size, paying close to $250 (after taxes), I want something not already coming apart. There's also a few sections that look like someone tried to restitch the webbing with tan thread?? So am exchanging it instead of returning this time, but I will update this review when the replacement comes. The back molding moving/bending with you is very nice as is the amount of padding on the shoulder straps. The vertical webbing on the shoulder straps is ok, but would be better utilized if horizontal instead.Update: I decided to cancel the replacement and return the product instead. After wearing it just around the house to assess functionality, I realized that the rotatable feature only being usable from the right side would definitely not work for me. I wish the zippers on the pockets went the full size of the pockets. That would allow it to be used rotated to either side. Since they don't unzip fully, it can only be used right sided because the area without the zipper is in the top corner when rotated to the left. Unfortunately rotating to the left is just far more comfortable and convenient for me so I decided not to use this bag. If it's ever updated with a full zipper, I would purchase again though (provided the stitching issue was just this bag or course). A bit larger would be nice too, not in actual length or width, I like the compactness of that. But 2ish inches in depth, with the ability to access pockets when rotated to either side would make this the perfect backpack in my opinion.
