I used this backpack cat carrier for a cross country trip. For 4 days each way, the cat spent his car time in it---up to 10 hrs at a time . He was comfortable & happy. Going into hotels, he felt safe and didn't complain as he rode on my back. He didn't try to escape or fight me getting into it. The carrier easily fit on the seat of the car. It is sturdy, with a solid panel for the bottom. I will definitely use this again & highly recommend it.This is a great carrier for cats. I got this specifically to carry a stray cat that I was adopting in my neighborhood to the vet. And it worked wonderfully. The downside the pictures as well as the video on the website advertise this backpack with having additional pockets which as you can see from the photos this particular bag did not have. Also the bag that I received was obviously a return from a different purchase. They were still cat hair or dog hair and Treats in the bottom of the bag. I'm not a stickler for purchases, the bag was in very very good shape. But being that this is transportation for animals and animals can transfer diseases to each other. The fact that they sent an used bag without taking the time to at least wipe it out or vacuum the animal fur off of it before sending it to someone else very worrisome. What if my animal can tracks a disease from this bag from the previous owners animal that returned it. The manufacturer needs to be more mindful of what they're sending out and the condition that they're sending it out inThe bottom REMOVABLE platform measures 12" long x 10.5" wide (approx) so if your pet can fit on a piece of paper (8-1/2 x 11) or a little larger you should be good to go. The sides of the pack are fabric and flexible and will allow a little extra for your pet to lie down but not much. Your pet's weight only matters as to what you can comfortably carry and for how long. The 'waist' band actually goes around the lower rib cage (depending on how long you set the shoulder straps and measures 42-3/4" buckled. I didn't measure the chest strap but it seems to have plenty of room and you don't necessarily need to fasten it. The stiffened filler in the removable bottom is also removable so the fleece/fabric can go through the wash. There is a snap clip on the back you can clip things like the included water bowl to. The top is screened and zips completely open; the back opening is smaller but is also screened. As far as the chemical smell: it's akin to the new-car smell and will go away. I let the pack air out in the living room for a day and it was fine.I have a miniature cat who measures 14" from nose to the base of his tail (10" long curled up) and weighs 2.5 lbs and he fits in it just fine with room for a piece of blanket. He has a twin sister and I could fit both in there without the blanket. It doesn't have pockets but the trade-off is screen-covered openings on the sides and back that he can look out of while lying down. I can carry my wallet in there with him and if push came to shove I could put small packages under the platform since it's tall.Before carrying a cat, make sure it's comfortable in a regular carrier; if it pitches a fit or growls and gets pissy you will need to spend some time training it to tolerate this pack. Clipping it's nails or covering them will also help. I left mine on the floor with the zippers opened and let all the cats check it out before trying to put anyone in- highly recommend! Use your common sense- only you can tell if your pet will be okay in this type of carrier!Our pug is about 15.5 pounds. Pugs get overheated easily, so we normally push her around in a dog stroller on walks so she can be shaded and not have to walk the whole time. We went on a hiking trip on terrain that was not suitable for the stroller, so we bought this backpack. She loved it! We put her in and opened the back flap so she could look out. My husband carried her on his back for a mile and a half hike. She just sat there looking out the whole time. She didn't fuss or try to jump out. My husband found the backpack to be comfortable. It seemed comfortable for our dog as well, as it has a sturdy bottom with a soft covering inside for her to just sit on normally. She never seemed distressed or upset. She was fine with the whole thing being closed, as well. It has mesh sides, top, and front, so you can keep it entirely zipped up, but the pet can still see and breathe. Once we realized she was fine and wouldn't try to jump out, we opened the flap so she could stick her head out. We are very pleased with this purchase. I would suggest looking at the dimensions of the bag, and then measuring your dog while he or she is sitting to see if the dog will fit comfortably. Pugs are compact, so even at her weight she fit nicely. A taller dog may not fit.We love the convenience of this and it’s design and comfortability. However it has already fallen apart and we have had it maybe 5 months.Disappointed my zipper broke.My Kinzy and I love it!!! I can't wait to use it for hiking on our camping trip. We have 3 different types of carriers and they all serve their purpose well, but this is great! She jumped right in and curled up ready to go on a ride.Kinzy is a 6 lb Shih Tzu and will not grow much more in size so this will be great forever! I have a long torso and this sits well on my back. The strap around the chest helps to give it the extra support. (also has a strap that goes around the waist). Now saying that, I do have a small chest so I have no issue snapping the chest strap.I like that it has several mesh openings that she can look out of and breath easily.When I place it horizontal on the ground she easily can relax in it.I have not used it as a car carrier as I have one strapped already, but will be using it for that purpose on our trip.Very pleased with the product and hope that it will last for years.I really love it, it worth the price. Would definitely recommend this to friends.
